Wisconsin ranks among the top 20 states in the U.S. for the number of domestic maritime jobs, employing 8,902 individuals who generate over $706 Million in worker income and produce $1.6 Billion annually for the Wisconsin economy.

Supporting U.S. Industry

U.S.-Flagged shipping companies invest on average more than $48 million a year in Wisconsin shipyards and facilities in Superior, Sturgeon Bay, and Milwaukee. 

Commodities moved from Wisconsin ports include bulk cargo like iron ore, grain, coal, salt, limestone, etc.  Project cargo includes windmill parts, brewery tanks, mining equipment, manufacturing equipment, farm and construction machinery, etc.  

To the west, Wisconsin’s port in LaCrosse is a major barge port handling agriculture and other products.
